Medical Innovations: Injectable Gel Makes Inroads Against Blindness and Stroke

A recent article in ‘The Globe and Mail’ reports on researchers from the University of Toronto who are now testing a potentially transformative innovation. A study done on a mouse’s eye, injected with retinal cells grown from stem cells in a lab. The mouse was born blind – genetically engineered so that its retina could not respond to light. But when a light flashed in the lab, the mouse’s pupil contracted. There is clear potential for human treatment on those with low vision.
