Looking Back, Moving Forward on a New Year

We would like to wish our clients a Happy New Year.

As we set our goals for 2018, we would like to reflect on all that we have accomplished the past year. Having celebrated our 18th Anniversary, we are especially proud of the important cases we litigated and the clients for whom we helped obtain the compensation they deserved and the peace of mind in having their case successfully resolve.

Litigating for Justice For example, our successful argument in Surujdeo v. Melady, changed the law, with the Court of Appeal clarifying a Judge’s duty in directing civil jury trials.

Contributing to Legal Education

We are also delighted by our firm’s contributions to Continuing Professional Legal Education. Heidi R. Brown led an insightful Ontario Trial Lawyers Association webinar on file transfers for law clerks. Rachel Radomski and Gillian Mays published articles in the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association’s the Litigator, “Rules You Must Have in Your Back Pocket for Every Single Motion” and “Municipal Notice and Limitation Periods” respectively. Yoni Silberman, meanwhile, presented at Osgoode Hall Law School’s Professional Development’s Personal Injury Law and Practice Conference in September 2017.

Community Involvement

Other moments from 2017 that make us proud were those that allowed us to engage with, and give back, to our community. These opportunities speak to who we are, what we care about and what inspires our work every day.

Last December, Bogoroch & Associates LLP organized an “ugly sweater day”. In exchange for wearing an ugly sweater to work, each employee brought a toy to contribute to the CP24 CHUM Christmas WISH Toy Drive. We also took part in CIBC Run for a Cure and sponsored the Women’s Law Association of Ontario’s President’s Award Dinner in June.

In October, we sponsored the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) National Persons Day Event. Dedicated to advancing equality rights for women and girls in Canada through litigation, law reform and public education, LEAF is a human rights champion we are honoured to support.

We continued our commitment to charitable giving, supporting a variety of important causes, including a $16,000 donation to the Advocates Society for scholarships for Indigenous Law Students. We were also proud sponsors of AIDSbeat, an annual battle of the bands between Toronto lawyers in support of the Canadian Foundation for Aids Research (CANFAR).

This past September, Richard M. Bogoroch was the co-chair of Osgoode Professional Development’s 13th Annual Update. With a focus on personal injury law and practice, this program offered lawyers with insight from recent Court decisions, legislative initiatives and tips to help guide their practice.

Recognition of Our Work

This past year Richard M. Bogoroch was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 12th Edition of “The Best Lawyers in Canada” for his work in personal injury litigation. And the firm was extremely proud to have been named — yet again — one of the Top 10 Personal Injury Boutiques in Canada by Canadian Lawyer Magazine, a leading legal publication.

We are always humbled by accolades such as these, but more important than awards, is obtaining fair and prompt compensation for our clients through the successful resolution of their cases.

Partnership Announcement

We are also pleased to announce that Mahsa Dabirian was admitted to the Partnership effective January 1, 2018. Mahsa joined Bogoroch & Associates LLP in 2012, and has established herself as a skilled lawyer, dedicated mentor, and committed advocate.

Mahsa’s practice is centered on Plaintiff’s personal injury, with a focus on medical malpractice proceedings against physicians, hospitals, nurses and other health care professionals.

Congratulations Mahsa.

As we embark on a new year, we look forward to continuing to provide our clients with excellent legal representation.
