“Bogoroch and Associates, one of Canada’s leading firms in personal injury litigation, have generously donated $10,000 to be used towards Education and Travel for the Head Injury Clinic and Trauma Neurosurgery Program. This bursary will be available to all full and part time allied health staff within the Head Injury Clinic and the Trauma and Neurosurgery Program, for attending conferences, seminars or workshops relevant to brain injury, trauma and neuroscience.

Successful applicants will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting quality practice within their program. Information obtained at these conferences or workshops will be disseminated at lunch and learn presentations available to all staff. Funding will be awarded following a committee review of applications.”

From the January, 2006 Toronto Rehab Link Newsletter:

Scholarship supports ABI professional development

For health care providers, ongoing education and professional development are essential to stay informed about emerging trends and best practices. The Bogoroch & Associates Educational Travel Scholarship supports staff of Toronto Rehab’s Acquired Brain Injury Service to attend international conferences to keep them “in the know” about the latest information in this area of rehabilitation.

This scholarship provided the opportunity for four ABI Service staff to attend the Neuro-Development Treatment Association National Conference in Houston, Texas and the Pacific Coast Brain Injury Conference in Vancouver in October 2005. They then shared key learnings from the conferences with their colleagues in the Neuro Rehabilitation Program at a December lunch-and-learn.

“The fund allows our health care professionals to attend international conferences focused on acquired brain injury rehabilitation – opportunities they probably would not have been able to take advantage of were it not for this bursary,” said Robin Shan, Program Services Manager, Acquired Brain Injury Service (Neuro Cognitive Stream). “Through this annual lunch–and–learn, they are able to share what they’ve learned, enhancing the knowledge base of the entire team.”

In 2006, Bogoroch & Associates will be sponsoring a similar scholarship for staff in the Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Program.

Congratulations to the Recipients of the Bogoroch Educational and Travel Bursaries
Ten thousand dollars was generously donated by Bogoroch & Associates, Barristers and Solicitors to support staff education and travel for the Head Injury Clinic and Trauma Neurosurgery Program. Bogoroch & Associates is a Toronto-based law firm that specializes in personal injury litigation.

‘We admire and respect the tremendous work that the social workers, nurses and therapists do every day to make life better for brain injured victims and their families,’ said Richard Bogoroch, founder of Bogoroch & Associates. ‘Increasing knowledge of brain injury and neurotrauma is one of our goals and our hope is that the bursary will enable members of the team to better help their patients, the hospital and their colleagues.’

Richard Bogoroch of Bogoroch & Associates is a strong believer in giving back to the community. In 2005, his prominent Toronto law firm – which specializes in serious personal injury, brain injury and wrongful death litigation – donated $10,000 for the establishment of the Bogoroch & Associates Educational Travel Scholarship in support of the acquired brain injury service at Toronto Rehab.

“The fund gives health professionals opportunities to travel and learn at international conferences related to acquired brain injury rehabilitation – opportunities they might not have had were it not for this bursary,” says Lynn Guerriero, Program Manager of the acquired brain injury-neuro cognitive service. By sharing what they learn with colleagues upon their return, the knowledge base of the entire team is enhanced.

“The scholarship will enable hospital staff to continue to provide the top-level care for which they are known,” adds Richard. “Our firm represents many people who have had serious injuries, so this is something that is close to us.”
